Is it weird to think Thomas Robinson might be as good as or better than Clarkson?
His reputation is as a pure hustle player and he is a monster rebounder but over the past couple weeks I'm seeing flashes of the offensive talent made him a lottery pick. He's taken guys off the dribble, been a good roll man, knocked down some jumpers, showed some good footwork on post moves. He's made some good passes to open shooters. He was totally lost defensively at the beginning of the year but has shown the ability to switch and has been growing as a decision maker on both sides of the ball. I've liked the pickup ever since preseason and from him putting up good numbers in his last dozen or so games as a Net.
To be fair, Robinson is playing for his basketball life right now (contract becomes guaranteed on Jan 10th) but he's only a year older than Clarkson who we all see as part of the young core. Maybe it doesn't make too much sense to compare them because they play different positions but it feels like Robinson is showing growth as the season goes on while Clarkson's been regressing.
